Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if a therapist is right for me?

Therapy is a relationship. Although therapy can be challenging, you should feel comfortable to ask your therapist about anything that doesn’t sit right during your sessions. It is important that you feel your therapist connects with you and understands you, as research indicates that this alliance between therapist and client has a significant impact on successful therapy.

TAM Therapy offers an initial phone consultation free of charge. This provides an opportunity to talk over the phone, get to know each other a little, and get a sense of whether we will be a good fit therapeutically.

Is therapy right for me?

You do not need to be diagnosed with a mental illness in order to benefit from therapy. Therapy can support you in dealing with the emotional impact of life experiences and life changes, and provide you with tools and strategies to live a rich and meaningful life, even in the face of difficulties.

Will our sessions be confidential?

When it comes to confidentiality, TAM Therapy complies with the strict ethical guidelines of PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia) and ACA (Australian Counselling Association), and uses a telehealth platform which meets stringent confidentiality requirements. During initial sessions, you will be introduced to the ethics and laws around therapy, so you can have confidence in the boundaries of confidentialty.

Do I need a referral?

No, it is not necessary to have a medical referral, a mental health care plan or a diagnosed mental illness in order to access therapy - you can book directly.

How much does a session cost?

Individual 50 minute sessions are charged at a rate of $120 per session.

How can I pay for my session?

Payment may be made via cash, debit/credit card or EFT (Electronic Fund Transfer)

Are rebates available?

Yes, TAM Therapy is a registered provider with numerous health insurance funds. Depending on your cover, you may be eligible for rebates for counselling from health insurance funds including BUPA and Medibank Private. Medicare rebates are not available for the services provided by TAM Therapy, and this is reflected in our service fees.
